12:30 PM! Brian Auger began his career playing jazz in London nightclubs in the early '60s. One of his earliest session gigs included playing harpsichord on The Yardbirds top ten hit "For Your Love". In the mid-'60s, Auger formed blues/rock band Steampacket, which included vocalists Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry and Julie Driscoll.
In 1967, Auger and Driscoll formed The Trinity, who were among the pioneers of a new sound known as "jazz-rock fusion". They released their first album "Open" in 1967, and achieved a #5 (U.K.) single in 1968 with their version of Bob Dylan's "This Wheel's On Fire". Auger next formed the Oblivion Express which recorded and toured through the 1970s, opening for major jazz and rock acts from Herbie Hancock to Led Zeppelin.
Auger toured with Eric Burdon from 1989 to 1993, then formed a new Oblivion Express with his children Karma on drums and Savannah on vocals. They continue to record and tour from small jazz clubs to large festivals, and will peform at Scullers Jazz Club in Allston on Tuesday, March 18.
