Janis Ian Interviewed on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, November 18, 2008
12:00pm - 2:00pm

Singer/songwriter and folk legend Janis Ian will be interviewed by telephone by host Eli Polonsky at about 1:00 PM! Janis was born in 1951, began playing piano at age two, and guitar at age 10. She wrote her first song at age twelve, and recorded her first album on Verve-Folkways in 1965 at age fourteen. It contained a song originally titled "Baby, I've Been Thinking", which two years later became a national #14 hit under a name from the lyrics, "Society's Child", despite its banning from airplay by a number of radio stations due to its then-taboo subject matter of interracial romance. Janis continued to record, and in 1975 scored her biggest hit with the Grammy Award-winning "At Seventeen", a national #3 hit which she performed on the first broadcast of "Saturday Night Live" that year. After a hiatus in the 1980s, Janis resumed recording and touring steadily from 1992 through today, and has recently released her autobiography "Society's Child" on Tarcher/Penguin Books, and the 2-CD collection "The Best of Janis Ian" on Rude Girl records. Janis performs in concert tonight at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley MA, will speak about her book and perform tomorrow at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center in Newton, and will perform in concert Thursday night at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH.
