Bluegrass legend Peter Rowan is scheduled for a live telephone interview with host Eli Polonsky at 1:00 PM EST!
Wayland, MA native Peter Rowan has been performing for over fifty years. As a teenager in the 1950's he played with bluegrass legends at Boston's famed Hillbilly Ranch, and was influenced by folk and acoustic blues at Cambridge's Club 47 in the early '60s. Peter became a member of the "Father of Bluegrass" Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys in the mid '60s.
In 1967 Rowan joined mandolin virtuoso David Grisman in the Boston based psychedelic folk band "Earth Opera", and in 1969 joined the progressive country-folk-rock band "Seatrain". In 1973 Rowan formed short-lived bluegrass supergroup "Old and In the Way" with Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn, and he played with his brothers Chris and Lorin in "The Rowan Brothers" through the mid '70s.
Peter has been recording and touring solo and with many bands and other collaborations to the present, and will be performing with Harvey Reid & Joyce Andersen opening this Friday, February 26, 7:00 PM at the Davis Square Theatre in Somerville. More concert information is here.
