Multi-instrumentalist (and early Springfield, MA resident) Taj Mahal began his career in 1964, forming The Rising Sons with slide guitar wizard Ry Cooder. In 1968 he released a string of solo albums, bringing with them a firm grasp of the blues, often infused with sounds from the Caribbean, Africa, and the South Pacific. Early this year he won his third Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album (his 10th nomination as well) with collaborator Keb Mo, and at age 76 continues to represent a revered place in the American blues tradition. Taj will be presiding at the Cabot in Beverly, MA on Saturday, June 2nd. Hosted by Bob Dubrow.
