The Arabi-Serghini Trio, consisting of the 3 principal members of the Orchestra of Tangier (Morocco), will perform and be interviewed live by host Ken Field starting at about 3pm.
The Arabi-Serghini Trio performs classical Moroccan music by themselves, and Spanish Andalusian fusion music in collaboration with additional Spanish musicians. The group, led by the legendary Ahmed Zaitouni, is popular in Spain, Italy, and France. Andalusian music was performed in South Spain for centuries until the Reconquista, when non-Christian populations had to leave the area. Their musical and poetic traditions have been preserved in North Africa.
The Orchestra of Tangier is currently making their US debut tour, and will appear in Boston on Sep 13 at the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (41 Berkeley St).
