In addition to being the soundtrack to Midnight Cowboy's Texan hooker with a golden heart, Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'" represented the pinnacle of the sophist pop that enamored critics and music industry insiders. A cover of a song written by disenchanted folkie Fred Neil to finish sessions for his second record, Harry Nilsson's cover bubbled under the top 100 upon its release. The release of Midnight Cowboy in 1969 resulted in Harry's first top 10 (one of just 3 in his career), and a spate of covers across the globe, including reggae, steel drum, and R&B.
