Author and musician John Byrne Cooke is scheduled to speak with host Eli Polonsky by telephone at 12:30 PM EDT about his latest book "On The Road with Janis Joplin" (to be released on October 28 by Berkley Books), a chronicle of his approximately three years as Janis Joplin's road manager from 1967 until her passing in 1970, including during legendary events such as the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival (where he served on D.A. Pennebacker's film crew), the 1969 Woodstock festival, and the 1970 Festival Express train concert tour across Canada.
Also a musician with over 50 years experience, Cooke was part of the early '60s "folk boom" here in Cambridge, MA as a member of the Charles River Valley Boys. Cooke will be speaking about "On The Road with Janis Joplin" at the Harvard Coop in Cambridge on Monday, October 27 at 7 PM, and WMBR will be offering copies of the book in exchange for your pledges to support the station during our annual fall fundraising week from November 6th through November 12th!
